Campaigning for:
Taking control of Planning. Planning control can either make or break small rural communities. We need to allow villages to grow within limits to help to preserve local amenities, shops, post offices, village halls, local pubs, bus services etc. What is not needed is large residential developments of the fringes of villages that changes the nature of the village. To aid this the development of local village plans or neighbourhood plans are vital tools in our armoury to prevent inappropriate development in our villages.
Building a sense of Community. Community is what makes village life. Many community groups, art and craft groups, gardening clubs, youth organisations. whilst being fundamental parts of village life, suffer from attendance issues, funding issues. Dorset Council provides a number of funds to support community groups to function efficiently.
Keeping our roads Safe. By their very nature rural roads are not built for modern vehicles of travel. Farm equipment has got bigger, wider and heavier, cars have got bigger and wider. Many of our roads started life as routes used by horse drawn vehicles winding around the edges of fields to service the rural population. This means the fabric of the road is damaged as vehicles try to pass each other, ditches are damaged. hedges at certain times of the year become overgrown. We need to find ways of preventing damage to the verges and ditches and to prevent as much as possible the use of our roads as alternatives to the major roads which are better designed for today’s traffic.
